Recently in Patan (Kathmandu valley) I was on the hunt for a statue of I was not sure what, mainly Vajrayogini but I was open to other possibilities. After a long day looking I decided to go to a cafe for some sustenance and there was a little shop in the alleyway I hadn't seen before. I found this statue of Mackik Labdron there. I was told it was the protype for a much larger 3 foot statue commissioned by a lama for a monestary. I failed to ask which one (I will try to find out).
I was a bit concerned in the shop as her face looked a bit fierce and I was a bit put off but deep down I knew I was to have her - sternness and all I thought well I need that quality.
When I unpacked her and had her in place at home her face no longer seemed stern. Could the statue have changed? Or was I seeing how what I needed to be reflected back to me.
Her expression now seems totally calm, inwards looking yet bestowing such compassion.
EM A HO
What a beautiful find. To me she appears deep in meditative absorption, yet is simmering with fully alive, compassionate ferocity that could be unleashed at any moment. Pure Dakini energy.
